Election 2012

Once again Liberal Democrats are putting forward candidates for election across Aberdeenshire.  Some current members are retiring from Council and we have new candidates as well of all ages.  Our newest and youngest candidate is only 23 - a local man, graduate in Politics from Aberdeen University and exceptionally capable.

Truly LOCAL

Liberal Democrats are the party of LOCAL decision taking.

It's in our bones and in our blood.  It's what we are about because we are about you, the life you live, and your right to live your life, in your way, and at peace with your neighbours in a free, fair, and prosperous society.

The preamble to our party constitution sums it all up:
The Liberal Democrats exist to build and safeguard a fair, free and open society, in which we seek to balance the fundamental values of liberty, equality and community, and in which no one shall be enslaved by poverty, ignorance or conformity.
We believe in and support devolution of power to all the regional parts of the United Kingdom and we believe Scotland can lead the way.  We believe that power should not just stop at Holyrood but pass all the way down to local councils and even beyond.  And there is a right level for all decisions - sometimes at the UK level, sometimes at the Holyrood level but mostly at the local level.

The most important thing we can do with power is return it to the people so that you can have control over your own lives.  What else would anyone want to do?

We lead Aberdeenshire Council precisely because we are committed to the aspirations of local people - important aspirations like better education for your children, better housing for you and your family, and better roads and better waste services that support your life needs.  And when we say 'lead' we mean precisely that.  Nobody has a monopoly of good ideas.  Our policy has been, and will continue to be, a policy of inclusion and co-operation with all members of Council regardless of their political affiliation.

If you want a truly inclusive Council you can rely on Liberal Democrats to deliver it.  Working co-operatively, listening, and delivering is what we do.

We can't guarantee a land flowing with milk and honey - no honest person can - even though we do aspire to continue delivering a great quality of life in Aberdeenshire.  What we can guarantee is an inclusive and progressive council committed to improvement and, above all, committed to you.
